St. John's Lutheran Church

In the City for Good!

St. John's Lutheran Church participates in God's mission to bless, save, restore and reconcile the world through meaningful worship and faithful witness in the city of Des Moines and around the world.

St. John's Lutheran Church invites and welcomes all people to experience the Good News of God's grace, forgiveness and unfailing love. The Good News calls and empowers us to share God's love in word and deed throughout our city, nation and world.

Fair Trade

Since 2005, St. John’s has participated in the Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project, providing coffee, tea, and chocolate for sale at cost in support of producers who sell through the fair trade market.  Fair trade provides the producer with pre-crop financing, a stable (and often premium) price for their product and benefits for their community.  Coffee and tea from Equal Exchange, cocoa and chocolate bars from Divine Chocolate, as well as fairly traded olive oil from Palestine are available for purchase on the bakers rack in the narthex.  A Fair Trade Fair, with products for sale through Servv, is often held before Christmas.

Questions about St. John’s commitment to use fairly traded products may be directed to the Senior Pastor, Rachel Thorson Mithelman.
