St. John's Lutheran Church

In the City for Good!

St. John's Lutheran Church participates in God's mission to bless, save, restore and reconcile the world through meaningful worship and faithful witness in the city of Des Moines and around the world.

St. John's Lutheran Church invites and welcomes all people to experience the Good News of God's grace, forgiveness and unfailing love. The Good News calls and empowers us to share God's love in word and deed throughout our city, nation and world.

Children's Ministry

All children are invited to attend Sunday School this Sunday from 8:45-9:45. Preschool age children will meet in Room 6 and Kindergarten in Room 7. Grades 1-4 will meet in Room 205 instead of the chapel for the start of Sunday School. They will then transition to their classrooms after our opening time together. Parents, please remember to sign your child in and out of their classroom. Thank you!

This Sunday through May 7, current fifth graders are invited to join Middle School Ministry in DDI during the Sunday School hour. Please contact Alicia Karwal or Noah Niermann with any questions.

Children are invited to turn in their final donations for God’s Global Barnyard by Sunday, April 30. The Sunday School classes will vote on Sunday, May 7 to determine our final purchases through the ELCA’s Good Gifts program! Thank you for your continued support of the Children’s Ministry service project this program year.

A Lutheran Lakeside Vacation Bible School Day Camp will be held at St. John’s Monday, July 31-Thursday, August 3 from 8:30-2:30. It is for all children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Registration for VBS begins April 30th; forms will be emailed and available on the St. John’s website. You may also obtain a form from Alicia Karwal.
