Fine Arts Update

Fine Arts Patron party Sunday, August 27, 4 to 6 pm

The annual Friends of the Arts patron party will be held at the Iowa State Bar Association headquarters on Sunday, August 27. This facility, built in 1902 originally as the Des Moines Western Railway Freight House, is located at 625 E. Court Ave., Des Moines, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The event provides an opportunity to celebrate our patrons, artists, and the Arts at St. John’s. Light refreshments will be served, and music will be provided by the St. John’s String Scholars and friends. The 2017-18 St. John’s arts calendar of events and exhibits will be announced at that time. All are welcome! Please RSVP to Beth Ann Edwards (bethann@stjohnsdsm.org) by August 23.

Zenith Chamber Music Festival Friday, August 18, 7:30 p.m. 

St. John’s is hosting a concert as part of the Zenith Chamber Music Festival on Friday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The Zenith Chamber Music Festival, which highlights national and international guest artists and local artists, is held annually in Des Moines and is sponsored by Drake University. The festival takes place Aug. 15-19, and all concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, please visit zenith.wordpress.drake.edu.

Kisasa Rehearsals Begin Wednesday, August 30

Rehearsals for Kisasa will begin two weeks before Beloved Community officially begins. On August 30 and September 6, rehearsals will begin at 5:30 with a light meal, and we will dismiss at 7:30. All students entering grades 3 through 6 are invited to participate in Kisasa Musicians. When Beloved Community begins on September 13, Kisasa rehearsals take place from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
