Sustainability Ministry
The environment is a very important part of our faith here at St. John's. We believe that it is our duty as people, and especially as people of God, to work to decrease our carbon footprint and waste. This ministry aims to achieve further sustainability in St. Johns by making environmentally conscious changes where possible.
This ministry is led by high school student Anika Busick who is passionate about making any possible effort to be more sustainable. The Sustainability Ministry was created out of her Capstone Project for her confirmation last fall.
During meetings, this group discusses climate change, unsustainable practices at St. John's, possible solutions, and steps to achieve those solutions.
So far, this ministry has significantly reduced paper usage at St. John's through redesigning the service bulletin as well as the method for attendance, investigated the option of solar panels, and ensured all possible lighting is LED. In addition, they have presented suggestions about composting and making church gatherings more sustainable to the involved ministry, and hope this can be a reality soon in the future. Although this group is no longer meeting regularly, if you have any ideas or suggestions for more sustainable efforts at St. John's, please reach out to Anika Busick at aebusick@gmail.com.
